IFSCA Issues Comprehensive Cybersecurity Guidelines for Market Infrastructure Institutions in GIFT IFSC

The International Financial Services Centres Authority has issued new Cyber Security and Cyber Resilience Guidelines for Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs) in GIFT IFSC, effective 1 April 2026.

These guidelines introduce a comprehensive and stricter cybersecurity framework for entities like stock exchanges, clearing corporations, depositories, and bullion exchanges, recognising their systemic importance.

Key requirements include:

  • Board-level oversight with a dedicated CISO
  • Establishment of a 24×7 Cyber Security Operations Centre (C-SOC)
  • Rapid incident reporting (within 6 hours) to regulators
  • Focus on third-party risk management
  • Mandatory ISO 27001 certification within 2 years
  • Adoption planning for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)

The framework aligns with major Indian laws like the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, ensuring stronger cyber resilience across IFSC institutions.
